Call (808) 729-8026

Bathing, getting dressed, brushing and styling hair: these are the first parts of the day most of us never think about, until they become tiring or unsteady. For many older adults the shower becomes the most stressful room in the house. Personal care assistance means having a calm, experienced person there to help with those everyday routines, so you can stay clean, comfortable, and put together without rushing and without embarrassment.

Jolly HCA provides non-medical personal care assistance in Newport Beach, Corona del Mar, Newport Coast, Costa Mesa, Irvine, and the wider Orange County coast. Every visit is given by Meliza Jones, RN, BSN, who brings years of professional composure to tasks that call for tact. Personal care is hands-on help with a daily routine, not a clinical procedure.

What a visit includes

  • Help getting in and out of the shower or bath, with a steady hand throughout
  • Help with washing hair, drying off, and moisturizing afterward
  • Grooming: brushing and styling hair, shaving, and nail filing
  • Help choosing clothes and getting dressed, including buttons, zips, shoes, and socks
  • Oral hygiene support, such as setting out a toothbrush or rinsing dentures at the sink
  • Toileting and continence support handled discreetly
  • Changing into fresh clothes or nightwear and tidying the bathroom afterward

What this is not

It does not include tasks that require a licensed nurse or doctor, and any concern beyond daily hygiene is always referred back to your physician. The goal is simply to help you manage the basics of your day with ease, privacy, and respect.

  • It is not a clinical procedure of any kind
  • It does not include dressing changes, skin treatments, or catheter or ostomy tasks
  • It does not include giving medication, including creams or drops
  • It is not a replacement for guidance from your doctor about any skin, balance, or health change

Dignity first, every time

Needing help in the bathroom can feel like a loss of independence, and it is common for a parent to resist it for longer than is safe. Meliza's approach is to do only as much as is needed. If you can wash but would like someone nearby in case you lose your balance, that is what she does. If buttons have become frustrating, she helps with the buttons and leaves the rest to you. Your routine stays your routine.

Privacy is respected throughout: towels in the right places, the door closed, conversation kept light and easy. Many clients find that once the first visit is over, bath day becomes something they no longer dread.

Fitting personal care into the rest of your day

Personal care often sits at the start of a visit. A typical morning might be help with a shower and getting dressed, then breakfast through meal preparation, then a gentle stretch through gentle exercise and mobility support. Because every visit has a two-hour minimum, there is time to do each step properly rather than hurry through it.

Who it helps

  • Older adults who feel unsteady in the shower or bath
  • People for whom dressing, grooming, or buttons have become tiring
  • Families who want a parent to keep up with bathing without the tension of a son or daughter helping
  • Spouses who have been helping a partner and need a break from that role

Led by a Registered Nurse, kept non-medical

Every visit is provided personally by Meliza Jones, RN, BSN, a retired Registered Nurse whose background runs from massage certification to a degree in nursing science. That experience shows up as calm, attentive, unhurried care. The service itself is always non-medical: help with everyday life at home, never a substitute for your doctor, and any health concern is referred back to your physician. Jolly HCA keeps a small client list, so availability is limited and every family gets the same familiar person each visit.

Personal Care Assistance: Common Questions

Is personal care assistance a medical service?

No. Personal care assistance is non-medical help with bathing, grooming, dressing, and hygiene. It is hands-on help with a daily routine, not a clinical procedure, and anything beyond daily hygiene is referred back to your physician.

My mother is embarrassed about needing help. How do you handle that?

Gently and at her pace. Meliza helps only with what is needed, keeps conversation relaxed, and protects privacy throughout. Many people find it far easier to accept help from a calm professional than from their own children.

Can personal care be combined with other services in one visit?

Yes. Most personal care visits also include something else, such as breakfast, light housekeeping, or companionship. Visits have a two-hour minimum, so there is room for more than one thing.

Who provides the personal care?

Meliza Jones, RN, BSN, provides every visit herself. There is no rotating staff, so the same trusted person helps each time.
