A trip to the market or the pharmacy used to be a ten-minute job. For many older adults it has become a real obstacle: parking, crowds, heavy bags, and the long wait at the pharmacy counter. When those errands start slipping, the household slips with them, and it is often the first thing adult children notice from a distance.
Errands assistance means Meliza Jones runs those errands for you across Newport Beach, Corona del Mar, Costa Mesa, Irvine and the Orange County coast, then brings everything home and helps put it away. You stay comfortably at home the whole time. It keeps the fridge stocked and the routine intact without the stress of leaving the house.
What a visit includes
- Grocery shopping from your list, including the brands you prefer
- Picking up prescriptions that are ready at your pharmacy
- Mailing letters and packages and collecting items from the post office
- Handling dry cleaning or returning a library book on your behalf
- Picking up household supplies, cards, or small gifts
- Unpacking groceries and putting them away where you keep them
- Checking what is running low so the next list is ready
What this is not
It does not include transportation. Meliza does not drive clients or provide rides of any kind; errands are run on your behalf while you remain comfortably at home.
- Clients stay at home while errands are run
- Meliza does not go to appointments with clients
- Picking up a prescription means collecting a bag that is ready at the counter, nothing more; questions about any medication go to your pharmacist or doctor
How errands fit into a visit
Most errands happen inside a regular visit. A common pattern is a little time together at the start to make the list, the errand itself, then unpacking and a cup of tea or lunch once everything is home. Because visits have a two-hour minimum, there is time to do the errand properly and still spend time together afterward.
Errands pair naturally with meal preparation: shop for the ingredients, then cook with them the same day. They also pair with medication reminders, since a collected prescription arrives home in the same visit.
Keeping it simple and accountable
Groceries and prescriptions are paid for by the household, and receipts come back with the shopping so everything is clear. If an item is out of stock, Meliza picks a sensible substitute you have agreed on in advance, or skips it, rather than guessing. The aim is errands that feel as if you had done them yourself.
Who it helps
- Older adults who no longer find shopping or waiting in line comfortable
- People who have given up their car keys and want errands handled without depending on neighbors
- Families who live out of the area and cannot do the weekly shop themselves
- Anyone who would simply rather spend their energy on something other than the pharmacy line
Led by a Registered Nurse, kept non-medical
Every visit is provided personally by Meliza Jones, RN, BSN, a retired Registered Nurse whose background runs from massage certification to a degree in nursing science. That experience shows up as calm, attentive, unhurried care. The service itself is always non-medical: help with everyday life at home, never a substitute for your doctor, and any health concern is referred back to your physician. Jolly HCA keeps a small client list, so availability is limited and every family gets the same familiar person each visit.
